We had a fabulous turnout for the latest Maharishi School Internet Safety Talk last night – thank you to all who attended. We take the safety of our pupils, teachers and families very seriously and are putting significant effort into ensuring we are pro-active about internet security and ensuring it is understood by both pupils and teachers;
‘pupils were more vulnerable overall when schools used locked down systems because they were not given enough opportunities to learn how to assess and manage risk for themselves‘ ~ Ofsted.
With this in mind the Maharishi School work with one of the country’s foremost IT Forensic and Legal analysts – who advises the UK’s police forces, CEOPS and the legal profession, and is responsible for securing many high-profile convictions and for bringing about changes in UK law through their work. As they mentioned in the talk last night, 75% of their workload is dealing with child protection, specialising not only in IT but in legal protection covering us and our activities online, to talk to parents and teachers and to cover the subject with Maharishi School pupils.
It was fantastic that so many people attended our most recent talk, learning some exceptionally useful facts, and to support the school and teachers in their work with our children and teaching them to be safe when using technology. Computers, mobile phones, X Box, PS3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Blackberry, tablets, iPods, Internet-enabled TV’s, Fridges… Yes, all of these devices – and many more – are ways that the outside world can track and connect with us, and our children.
As an added bonus, every family that attended were given a software license for home monitoring by one of the country’s most advanced forensic monitoring companies who also specialise in education.
We look forward to hosting our next session, and hope we continue to get such great support from our pupils and families.
