Maharishi Free School, Suffolk
An Important Opportunity for Your Child’s Education
Recent Ofsted reports have rated the Maharishi Free School in Lancashire ‘Outstanding’ in 11 areas, and ‘Outstanding’ overall.
In 2013 there’s a new, state-funded, Maharishi Free School for 11-16 year olds proposed to open in Rendlesham.
| UPDATE!
The application to open a Maharishi Free School in Rendlesham for 11-16 year olds with class sizes of 24, which would open in September 2013, was sent to the Department for Education on February 23rd. Approximately 337 groups around England are applying to set up a free school. * Dr and Mr W. Woodbridge “I visited the Skelmersdale school and desperately wanted Joseph to attend however work and personal situations wouldn’t allow us to relocate… I have tried to get my son’s present school interested in implementing TM but they do not have the resources to do this.” EP Ipswich S R Woodbridge “Having attended one of the meetings about the Maharishi Free School initially to see what it was about the over-riding feeling after the presentation was one of ‘WOW’. We feel that having this school will be an amazing opportunity for the village of Rendlesham and some of the children, hopefully including our daughter who we feel would benefit from the Maharishi Free School environment.” Mr and Mrs M Rendlesham “I am a teacher myself and was very impressed by the presentations I have seen about the new free Maharishi school in Suffolk and the Maharishi school that is currently operating in the North of the country. Too often in schools, children are hurried and bustled along from one lesson to another, from one target to the next and don’t have the opportunity of concentrating, being mindful and creative and individual and produce work of depth and quality. I feel that the Maharishi School in Suffolk will offer Billy a place to be fully himself, feel comfortable and fulfil his true potential. What a lucky boy!”

In September 2011 the first 24 Free Schools opened.
The government’s purpose in encouraging Free Schools is to increase choice and drive up educational standards.
Of these 24 Free Schools, the one with the best track record is the Maharishi Free School in Lancashire.
The good news is that Maharishi Free School is in the process of submitting a proposal to start one near you here in Suffolk.
We are planning to offer a full Secondary and 6th form curriculum with intake from Year 7.
Benefits of Maharishi Free School
1: Ofsted has rated it as Outstanding. GCSE results are not only among the highest in Lancashire, but also in the top 2.5% of all schools nationally. It has won more national poetry competitions than any other school.
2: Maharishi Free School offers your child an education which includes a simple mental skill that helps to fulfil their potential. Children take part in Transcendental Meditation at the start and end of the school day. It enables students to improve their performance by being restfully alert and more receptive to learning. The school describes its ethos as providing holistic development for all pupils, eliminating stress and improving the school’s atmosphere by creating a happy, focused and orderly learning environment.
“The School’s focus on individuals and its use of meditation and the quest for balance underpins all that it does. Students are calm, confident, self-assured, polite and considerate. They are eager to acquire knowledge and skills and enjoy learning… The quality of education is outstanding overall because individuals and their needs are at the heart of the School’s work”.
Ofsted 2009
“Maharishi School has long achieved outstanding results for its pupils and has been imaginative in its approach to raising standards. I am delighted that the education provided by this school will now be available for free to local young people… and will become recognised as a flagship of the Free School Programme”.
Lord Hill, Under Secretary of State for Schools
“Since my 2 children have attended the Maharishi school, not only their lives but those of the family as a whole have become increasingly fulfilled, calmer and creative. As a teacher myself for more than 15 years, in both private and state funded schools, many of which have excellent staff and facilities, I have found the Maharishi School to offer all round very high quality education.”
